Ballycastle Credit Union has been serving the local community since 1965 when 15 founding members each paid membership fee of half a crown giving a total of £16-17s-6p and £1 into savings. at a meeting held in the Hall of The Star of The
Star School (now Sheskburn House) Ballycastle Credit Union was born. The first president elected was Frank McCaughan, Cahal Dallat was Secretary, Joe O’Rourke and James O’Kane joint Treasurers. However, problems abounded; they needed somewhere
to operate from and no-one had any experience of lending money. What terms would be imposed, how much interest to charge? The very first loan was to a farmer for the purpose of buying a sow. The loan was repaid and the farmer came back and borrowed again.
