Crossmaglen Credit Union Limited

The study group in 1972 gathered information and visited established credit unions and 12 months later Crossmaglen Credit Union was established in 1973. They affiliated to the Irish League of Credit Unions. The credit union has seen many changes since the early days with the founding volunteers manning weekly the office to setting up in rented premises, hiring staff, purchasing premises and finally moving to a purpose-built office with assets changing from zero to nearly 15 million pounds! The credit union specialise in providing a safe place for savings and loans in the community. Crossmaglen Schools Credit Union is active in all the local primary schools on Thursdays’ during the school year.  In partnership with Glencarn a local nursing home they visit resident members helping them with their financial needs. Winter Fuel Scheme offers short-term loans at only 6%Apr.

Moyola & Toome Credit Union Limited

It started life opening the first account in the "Green Hut" in March 1964 and started with 19 Members. A local man Owen Gribbin with the help of others in the community, contacted John Hume, who was instrumental in starting the first credit union in Northern Ireland, in Derry. Roddy Gribbin was elected first Chairman and Liam Gribbin the secretary and the treasurer was Owen Gribbin. Many other volunteers followed over the past 45 years and have been influential in the promotion and success of Moyola & Toome Credit Union Limited. Membership is increasing beyond the current 4500 and is growing from strength to strength. Members can now sign up for E statements and view real time by visiting the website. 

Coalisland Credit Union Limited

Was formed in 1963 with a study group of local people, representing various interests and concerns about the financial wellbeing of the community in the area. Meetings were held on a number of occasions and learning began on how to run the organisation, resulting in the eventual opening for business to the residents in Coalisland areas of Stewartstown, Clonoe, Edendork and Newmills. From a small beginning with nine members and a shareholding of £45, they have now grown to over 11,000 adult and juvenile members and over £25m in shares. Putting people before profit, providing  a safe and secure means of saving, providing loans to members for prudent and productive purposes and responding to members’ requests for additional services for over 50 years.
