1st Alliance (Ayrshire) Credit Union
was founded in April 2004 from the combined strengths of Stevenson Credit Union and Kilwinning Credit Union. 1st Alliance covers the whole of Ayrshire, anyone living or working in the county can become a member. Financial cooperative owned and controlled by members, managed and staffed by local people, with a strong voluntary element. They strive to offer tailored financial solutions to our members.
Advance Credit Union was founded in 1989 by a group of people with a common interest who joined together to save money and then loan it out to each other at a small cost.
Allerdale Credit Union, started in 1997
Allerdale Credit Union is in negotiations with Cleator Moor & District Credit Union to merge from 1st October 2015. The combined credit union would become the biggest in the county by members and by area (ie all of Allerdale and Copeland).

My Community Bank has grown out of a credit union called Brent Shrine Credit Union, which was first formed in 1979 to serve people living or working in the London Borough of Brent.
In 2013 the common bond was extended to include members and supporters of The “British” South Asian Community across the UK. My Community Bank is as British as curry. Open nationwide to all who are members of associations concerned with the culture, cuisine, finance or welfare of the South Asian community in the UK.
A group of local people first got together in Reading in 2003 to bring the benefits of a Credit Union to the town. The group led by Stephen Magee worked steadily to gather support from local organisations and in 2007 the Reading Credit Union began its operations when member number one was signed up.
The Reading Credit Union grew steadily and by early 2009 had over 400 saving members and a developing loans business. During this period many requests were received from other communities across the county of Berkshire to expand its area of operations.
As a result in 2009, a Project Group was set up to expand the Reading Credit Union. The project successfully completed its work when in August 2010, Community Savings and Loans Ltd came into being. This new organisation, building outwards from Reading now covers all areas of Berkshire.
Bristol Credit Union was created in 2005 and 2006 through a partnership of community credit unions in the city. With regeneration funding and support from Bristol City Council, a single City-wide credit union set out to provide services to the people living and working across the whole of Bristol. The membership area was later extended to cover the whole of the former Avon county area
Bute Credit Union set for expansion
Bute Credit Union has now expanded its area of membership to include the Cowal peninsula. This Credit Union is a thriving financial organisation and has 300 active members on the Isle of Bute. Members use the Credit Union to save money and benefit from a low interest rate on loans (12.68% APR). It is hoped to set up a satellite unit in Dunoon during 2013. The idea for the Bridgend County Credit Union originated in Sarn with the aim of serving the communities around St Brides Minor. Supported by the local Community Council, a public consultation was held at the Sarn Community Centre in November 1997.
The North Wales Credit Union was established in 2010 following the merger of Caledfryn, Clwyd Coast, Llandudno, Wrexham and Y Llechen Credit Unions. In May 2015, Hafren Credit Union merged with North Wales Credit Union. North Wales Credit Union AGM on 30th January 2016 approved changing the name to Cambrian Credit Union. We have over 14,000 adult members and 1,500 junior savers. We employ over 30 members of staff and have over 150 volunteers.
Calderdale Credit Union Limited
The Credit Union was first registered in April 1993 as Calderdale MBC Employees Credit Union. An application was made to seek to gain approval from the regulator to alter the common bond to a ‘live or work’ qualification which would enable the Credit Union to offer its services to a wider membership base. In July 2003, a number of smaller Credit Unions within the Borough merged to become Calderdale Credit Union. there is a small office in the center of Todmorden which is open three times a week. Staff moved into the new building in December 2013.
ONE of Cumbria’s enterprises, Carlisle and District Credit Union, came into being in 2004. Membership in 2016 stands at 2,988 with assets of £1.8m.

The first Credit Union in Clackmannanshire was Tullibody Credit Union. In 2004 it merged with Alloa & Sauchie Savings Group to form Clackmannanshire Credit Union which now covers the whole of the county.
We currently have collections in Alloa and Tullibody but we hope to extend that to other communities as we continue to grow.

Flamesavers Credit Union
Was launched at Hanley Fire Station, Stoke on Trent in 1992 and have been fortunate in retaining their offices there due to the generosity and constant support of a succession of Chief Officers. They expanded in 2001 by inviting Cheshire Fire & Rescue to join the Credit Union. Then in 2010 included Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue in our Credit Union, and have at the moment well over 1,000 members throughout these three brigades.

First Scottish University credit Union ltd
Established in 1990 to serve the employees of Heriot-Watt University, membership is now open to any employee of Heriot-Watt University, Napier University, Edinburgh University or Queen Margaret University.
Membership 2013 was at 760 members the aim for the year was to increase membership to 1000 members. In 2015 saw an increase in the Credit union office of members applying for larger loans therefore decided to increase the amount covered by loan protection insurance to £15,000. At the 2017 AGM it was agreed to approve a 0.5% dividend.
Foyle Credit Union
was set up by a small group of locals in Moville in 1990, and has a membership of almost 4,000 people, while the group held assets of more than 8 Million euro in 2006/2007, with shares in excess of 7.7 million euro. Loans also up to €4.6 million for the year ended September 30 2010.
Fusion Credit Union
has been operating in Lichfield since 2005 and, thanks to funding from Cannock Chase Council, are now offering these services to people living and working in Cannock Chase District.
As of the 1st October 2012, Redcar & Money Tree Credit Union has merged with GLEN Credit Union.

Hannahstown Credit Union has been serving our members for over 40 years. In 1971 the 11 founder members put in a pound each, and got the use of a room in St. Oliver Plunkett Primary School on the Glen Road. Despite many setbacks in the early days the credit union grew steadily and in 1978 purpose-built premises were opened on the present site; extended in 1985; and extensively refurbished in 2003. Began as Lochaber Credit Union back in February 1999 and with the changing of the common bond took the name May 2015. Highland Communities Credit Union takes members from the Highland Regional Council area, including the Small Isles. Lochaber Housing Association are a named collection site for the Credit Union.

Islwyn Community Credit Union Limited (ICCU)
is a volunteer based credit union started as the North Islwyn Credit Union. The first collection point was held in the Wesley Centre on Saturday November 7th. The support given to us by the Wesley Centre in Blackwood was vital and. BAGS Credit Union also gave us practical day-to-day advice. Early in 2003 we expanded our common bond to include all parts of the Islwyn constituency and changed our name to become Islwyn Community Credit Union Limited. Pupils run the collection points in the schools, so developing their maths and finance skills and are the future.

Moyola & Toome credit union Limited
Opened its first account on the 3rd of March 1964. It was the forward thinking of local man Owen Gribbin who had read about credit unions in Readers Digest, and with the help of others in the community, contacted John Hume, who was instrumental in starting the first credit union in Northern Ireland, in Derry. It started life in the "Green Hut" in March 1964 and has gone from strength to strength. In March 1964 the Credit Union had 19 members. North Tyneside Employees Credit Union. The Credit Union began around 1990, in a small office at the Town Hall on a weekly basis, run by the board and volunteers. At this time, they did not have an office of their own and long term members will probably remember the queues through the corridors, especially once a month on loan night. The credit union has grown from strength to strength in the past 27 years. However, they found a permanent office at the heart of North Tyneside Council in Quadrant West, at the Silverlin.
North Wales Credit Union was established in 2010 following the merger of Caledfryn, Clwyd Coast, Llandudno, Wrexham and Y Llechen Credit Unions.
We have over 10,000 adult members and 1,500 junior savers. We employ over 25 members of staff and have over 150 volunteers.

Nottingham Credit Union
Began as Radford Credit Union in 1991/2 later merging in October 2001 with Fair Goose registered November 1995 as Fair Goose & Radford Credit Union. In July 2003 it registered as Nottingham Credit Union serving anyone who lives or works in Nottinghamshire plus tenants of several partner housing associations. As well as its main branch in the centre of Nottingham, the credit union opened a new branch in Mansfield to make it more visible and easier to join and use for people in that area. ORMEAU CREDIT UNION LTD
Ormeau Credit Union is one of the largest credit unions in Northern Ireland. Located at 252 Ormeau Road in south Belfast, have been in existence since the early 1960's and 2017 currently have around 8000 account holders. Membership is open to anyone who has something in common with the rest of the membership. In credit union parlance this is known as the common bond of membership. Generally, that means if you live or work in central or south Belfast (including Carryduff) you should be able to join.

Anyone who lives or works in the G51, G52 or G53 postcode areas on the south side of Glasgow can join the credit union, and it currently serves around 2,500 members. On March 17th 2016, a dividend of 3% was paid to all adult members and 3% was paid to our Junior members.

Somerset Savings and Loans
formally North Somerset credit Union, Western Super Mare & District Credit Union. Launched in 2004 there are now over 2,000 members and continue to grow strongly. The organisation re-launched early in 2013 and is now stepping up its efforts in hard-pressed communities, reducing people's dependency on doorstep and payday loan companies. Solent Credit Union is one of the more recent Credit Unions created from a merger of Co-operators CU, Sanctuary CU and Eastleigh CU and offers cooperative financial services to people and organisations who live, work or are based in the SO postcode area. South Lakeland Credit Union is an ethical, not for profit financial co-operative serving our members with savings and loans facilities. Whitehaven, Egremont & District Credit Union were newly formed in April 2010 as the result of a merger between Whitehaven Credit Union, and Egremont & District Credit Union.

Wimbledon credit union spent a number of years as a study group in the early sixties. Led by Ted Sammons it was the first to be registered in England as a Credit Union under “The Companies Act” in April 1964. The common bond was with the boundary of the Sacred Heart a Jesuit parish in Wimbledon and membership was open to anyone living or working in that parish area. The study group agreed to followed the model established in Nova Scotia Canada after extensive research around the world on Credit Unions. I
Willowfield Credit Union opened to the public in December 1967 and has served its members well for 49 years. At the end of its first year it had Assets of £10k. Today it has net assets of £3.45 million, a measure of the success of the Credit Union and of the high esteem in which t is held by the 1800 members. Willowfield Credit Union are delighted to be part of the 300 ILCU affiliated Credit Unions.

Wiltshire Savings and Loans was established in 2005 in Salisbury previously called South Wiltshire Credit Union.It was set up in November 2015 with the merger of North Wilts Credit Union and South Wilts credit union the credit union continues to grow.
Across Wiltshire there are many people who for a variety of reasons do not have savings accounts or easy access to low cost loans. To meet the financial needs of these communities separate Credit Unions evolved over time in the North, South and West of Wiltshire and have been in operation for many years. The economic conditions of the last few years has resulting in a growing number of people finding it difficult to control their money and often falling prey to what have become known as ‘Payday Lenders’. The result of using these companies can be very expensive and may lead to spiralling debt that becomes impossible to control.
